Generally, one would make a pattern and try to do this in one piece. But it made some sense to do this as little bits. If only to keep the grain all running in the right direction.

We’ll have to wait and see how it turns out. I want to let the glue set thoroughly before attempting to saw the projecting bits flush to the surface.

I’ll be curious to see how the two different woods react to the finish. They look similarly colored now, but I expect that mahogany to darken considerably beneath the shellac.
